It's autumn in New England, which means... it's time for the beach! Yes, yes, I know what you're thinking, and yes, I'm feeling okay. Just trust me when I say, despite trading in our beach towels for bulky sweaters, New England beaches are not just for summer. Mr. TBF and I recently headed up to Plum Island, near Newburyport, MA, to spend a weekend at Blue Inn on the Beach, one of the newest ventures by Lark Hotels. Locals know that Plum Island is one of the prettiest beaches on the North Shore, making it perfect for an autumn beach getaway.
We arrived Friday afternoon and checked into a cozy, ocean-view room. Lark Hotels specializes in stylish, whimsical design and Blue Inn on the Beach is no different - take a look at that restful, light-filled space! I took a spin around the island on one of Blue Inn's complimentary bicycles (in their signature color) to kick off the weekend. After enjoying the sunset on the balcony, we popped over to a neighborhood staple, Bob Lobster, for dinner (obviously their lobster is great, but also try the fried shrimp). When a thunderstorm rolled in after dinner, we grabbed a bottle of wine and hit the hot tub under the covered patio, watching the lightening dance across crashing waves and listening to the sound of rolling thunder over the Atlantic.
A lovely breakfast basket was delivered to our room Saturday morning, along with piping hot coffee, which we enjoyed on the balcony. A collection of surfers meandered down the beach and into the water to take advantage of the waves left over from the previous night's storm; we ate while watching them dart and bob across the water. Local Newburyport, a ten minute drive from the hotel, was our afternoon/evening destination, peeking in some of my favorite shops, and enjoying a long, luxurious dinner at Brine, an oyster, crudo and chop bar (Yes, it's as great as it sounds).
I've written about Lark Hotels before - many of you are familiar with their focus on design, decadent breakfasts and chic, cheeky atmosphere. Indulge in a little of the Lark vibe this holiday season - Lark is hosting a pop-up shop on Boston's iconic Newbury Street from December 13-18th, 2016. Pop in to the pop-up for gorgeous design, treats and a chance to win a night at Lark's newest property in Salem, MA!
