When Parisian designer Anne Fontaine opened her first US store sixteen years ago, she selected a Boston location, citing her love of the European, friendly vibe of the city. Now she's opened a new concept boutique at 280 Boylston Street, just steps from the old shop. It's all the classic white shirts for which Ms. Fontaine is famous, plus much, much more.
Take, for example, her limited edition "couture" line, Les Precieuses, which a includes a perfectly cloud-like silk organza sleeveless top, an embroidered mesh and sequin collar (hand made in Italy), and a black, open tunic in re-embroidered taffeta. The detail on each piece is beautiful, and the cuts flatter a variety of body types. If accessories are your thing, try out a wall of amusing collars, ranging from basic white, to organdy petals, to a Swarovski-encrusted sparkler. The shop carries handbags, shoes, and even traditionally made sunglasses (here's how they get the acrylic so polished and smooth!). And then there are the white shirts. Mixing classic and modern, shapeless and sexy, each shirt has something just a little special. My favorite? A long silk tank trimmed in this season's "it fabric" - perforated leather. With some of the nicest shopgirls in the city, and a gorgeous view of the Boston Common; you just may spend a whole afternoon trying things on. You'll find the shirts, and the new Anne Fontaine, an ideal fit.
