Lace is a big trend for Fall 2011, but it can be tough to pull it off without looking either dowdy (grandmother's doily) or tacky (80's country music singer). That said, if you keep it simple, you can look polished and chic in this feminine, delicate fabric! Here are a few tips for wearing lace:
- Let the fabric be the star - Keep jewelry and other patterns to a minimum.
- Pick one piece - You can try the trend without going overboard by pairing a lace tee or jacket with an otherwise tailored outfit.
- Be conscious of color - White lace can seem bridal, red lace risqué; you can never go wrong with classic colors like brown, navy or gray.
- I like to toughen lace up a bit with rocker boots, but simple pumps will also work well.
- If you are wearing lace, keep the denim to a minimum. Nothing will make you look dated faster than lace and faded jeans.

Lace and faded jeans? You're right - that look must be avoided... Reminds me of being ten years old and going with my friend to get "Glamour Shots" at the local mall. Yowzah!
