I know that many of you are currently in the throws of spring. I see blog, Facebook and Twitter posts about how "it's sandal day!" or someone says they are "sipping lemonade and it's 80 degrees and sunny". I know those kinds of wonderful things are basic springtime activities in most places. In Boston, however, spring is reserved for two weeks of rain, followed by a glorious day of sun (usually a Monday), followed by two more weeks of rain, and so on. Now believe me, I didn't move to Boston for the balmy weather, but this cycle of washwashwash/ dry/ repeat can get a little depressing, particularly when all you want to do is put away the tights and sweaters already!
I feel like May should be officially time to give up tights, come 48 degree weather or high water. Or, you know, both. So you may notice how in this outfit I am wearing cute little sandals (spring!) along with a coat and scarf (spring.). I'm actually crazy about the scarf, you'll notice I wore it earlier this week...
Lest I get too Debbie Downer in this post, I will say that there are plenty of things I love about spring, and one of them is that all the birds get twitterpated. We keep a feeder outside our apartment (much to the entertainment and chagrin of our two cats) and I love watching the birds flitting about, cheeping, grabbing seeds, and discovering bits of twine for their nests. So when I saw this necklace on sale at Mint Julep's Pink List party last week, I had to pick it up. This way, even if my outfit was grey like the sky, at least I was wearing one little bright spot of color and springtime!
How do you dress when the weather gets you down? Do you go grey, or do you try to force in a little color?
Tee: Splendid
Skirt: Zara
Belt: Consigned (Second Time Around, Harvard Sq.)
Jacket: Pixi (now closed)
Scarf: Happy Scarf
Shoes: Diane von Furstenberg
Necklace: Mint Julep
Hello! The necklace is so cute! I try to wear colour to cheer me up if the weather is dreary. Also - I don't believe in "rules" (or at least not very many fashion rules) and think you looked great in the maxi dress. :)

In the spring I try to incorporate more color, no matter how dreary and disappointing the weather is.

I love your style - so feminine and all of your clothes are so nice (I wouldn't mind wearing them myself, ha!).
ReplyDeleteAnd I've just fallen in love with that necklace!

Thanks all! I was pretty dreary during the rainy week, but I took your advice and tried to punch in a little bit of color - it really did make me feel more cheerful!
