When in doubt, fast fashion can be a life saver. Not sure if the newest craze will work for you? Pick up the Target or H&M version and give it a try before you plunk down piles of your hard earned money on the fancy version. I picked up this maxi at Forever 21 for $10. For that much, if it doesn't look great, I'll sleep in it!
Of course, it kind of helps that I think it looks great.
Also, how hilarious are Truman and Clinton in the background? These cats think outfit photos are the most fun!
What about you - have you broken any of the "rules" for your body type? Did the rule hold true for you?
Dress: Forever 21
Belt: Gianfranco Ferre
Earrings: Petro Zillia
Shoes: Shop Ruche
Watch: Michael Kors
Sunglasses: Michael Kors
I love this dress and it looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteI don't usually go for maxi dresses and I'm not even that petite - I'm 5'6 but for some reason I think they just wouldn't suit me.
Y'know, you've inspired me there, I might try one (next time I'm shopping) :-)
xo
Um, I never would have guessed you were 5'2"! You look so tall in all your pictures for some reason.
ReplyDeleteI've been dying to try the maxi dress trend too. You're right, though... I should try it out first with a Forever21 or Target version instead of breaking the bank on something I may not love.

P'shaw on the rules! I love the maxi-dress, and the floor-sweeping skirt, and I'm only 4'10". You look great! I really like the racer-back on that dress, too -- that would work on me.
ReplyDeleteWow you look great in this! The dress really shows off your shoulders and arms, and look how long your legs look in this! If I had seen this dress on the rack, I would have thought it to be dull and shapeless, but it really looks good on. I've been avoiding the maxi dress even though my best friend swears by them (she is tall and lean). Maybe I should try one on.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and am following!

Your bum looks great!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have ever picked out this dress --- but it really looks awesome and I LOVE the color! (I'm into earth tones these days). I might just have to hit up F21 and buy that same one!!!!
ReplyDelete@nancyHooray for the comments! It is interesting to see a lot of us were a little hesitant of the maxi dress. I have to tell you - I loved wearing it, too - it was comfortable and easy to move around it, I never had to worry about a sudden gust of wind, and it was easy to cover up with a jacket! It is definitely moving into my summer rotation!
ReplyDeleteJust picked up a VERRRRY similar maxi over my lunch break at H&M. They have grey-blue, grey, and black. It has the same racer back, but has some eyelet detailing where the shoulders meet. But, a warning to petit girls...don't get too excited about H&M's selection - I am 5'6" and had to get a SMALL because the other sizes were so long!!!
ReplyDeleteKristen...thanks for the inspiration!
i think the dress looks fabulous! i am 5'3'' and i wear long skirts and maxis all the time! rules were meant to be broken :)

The dress looks great on you!! I would not have guessed you are 5'2". You look way taller in these pics!
ReplyDeleteAnd your cats are so adorable!!
This dress looks fabulous on you! Makes you look like a solid 5'11''! This is one rule you should definitely break often. Can't believe what a score it was.
ReplyDelete@Cameron, Boston Green Blog Cameron, thanks for the tip! Hear that everyone? Maxi tank dresses at H&M!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the comments, everyone. This experiment has really inspired me to break some other fashion rules :) I'd love to hear if you all try a maxi dress!
ReplyDelete@whatlolitaeats.com You do often wear longer skirts, and you look great in them. I think this may be one of the rules that we throw out...
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks great on you! Who cares about rules! I'm not even 5'1" but I love wearing maxi dresses. Sky high platform heels and wedges certainly help. ;)
