This has been a great week, blog wise! On Monday (when I wore this outfit) I attended an inspirational class at the Boston Center for Adult Education on fashion writing, taught by Stuff Magazine's Erica Corsano. Not only does Erica have an extensive fashion pedigree and an inimitable point of view, she is clearly enthusiastic and dedicated to promoting up-and-coming writers. It was also energizing to meet a cohort of local fashion writers, freelancers and bloggers and share some tips and some frustrations.
I also really enjoyed yesterday's comments on the number of pictures people like to see posted on outfit blogs. Some folks said one was enough. Others prefer more. What do you think - how many photos do you like to see in an outfit blog? You can answer my poll or feel free to leave (polite) comments.
And finally, to the outfit! This dress is called "Trotting Through Tulsa", so I am excited to give a shout out to my home town! That said, it is covered with a print that looks like horses, and, in all my years of living in Oklahoma, I can count the times I rode a horse on one hand. It's kind of like when Mr. BF first visited my home town, and asked if we had movie theaters. What? Moving pictures? Talkies? Yeah, we have those, but you have to take your covered wagon.
I actually love the print, and I am thinking that this dress will also look great this summer over a bikini and with some funky sandals. Although, to be fair, I am thinking that about a lot of my clothes recently. Have you started to think about your summer fashion?

I like a couple full body photos and then a couple detail shots of accessorise. However, I'm not sure that my advice counts for much since all my outfit photos are pretty lame... I need a new camera!
ReplyDeletei love that dress! maybe we should do a dress exchange and you can borrow my purple dress :) i'm sure it would look great on you!

i really wanted to go to that class, i'm so bummed i missed out. it sounds like it was really helpful!
ReplyDeleteinteresting Q about the outfit posts. i say to show 3-5 photos, but make each photo different. a different angle or pose, a close-up of some detail in the outfit, etc.
@The Blonde
ReplyDeleteThanks, Blonde! And please don't discount your photos - I think they look great. I'd love to be able to get some good shots of accessories, but as of yet they just look like a floating hand or head. I need to learn to do accessories shots without looking like Thing or Jambi!!
@suzanne Um, YES PLEASE!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI just spent a few days in the 918 myself!
ReplyDeleteMultiple photos are fine, but I think just one full length shot and then add additional detail shots (either accessories or fabric closeups)
ReplyDeleteGreat meeting you at the fashion writing class the other night! Love your blog!
